It was a privilege for our firm to be part of an excellent team of lawyers that brought a lawsuit pro bono against the Prince William County Sheriff and jail superintendent upon receiving credible information the jail was holding inmates for ICE in contravention of two Virginia Attorney General Opinions from 2015 and 2019 after ending its 287(g) program. The client was released on Friday and was not held for ICE, which makes the suit moot and it will be non-suited. Congrats to Sebastian Norton for drawing up the pleadings and the Prince William County lawyers who aided in putting the team together and doing the work on the ground. Information developed during the case indicates other jails are still holding for ICE in the absence of 287(g) agreements and there may be more litigation to come.
