King & Campbell, Pllc focuses on aggressive and innovative defense of individuals accused of felony and misdemeanor offenses in Virginia’s state and federal courts. Joe King, Ryan Campbell, and Megan Thomas are experienced litigating criminal cases at all phases of the criminal process, including the appellate level. Together, they have tried hundreds of criminal matters and defended thousands of criminal cases. Cases involving the firm include Mr. King's representation of petitioner Briscoe in the U.S. Supreme Court in Briscoe v. Virginia, which challenged the constitutionality of now defunct Virginia statutes governing the introduction of laboratory certificates of analysis into evidence. On January 25, 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court vacated the Virginia Supreme Court’s decision against Mr. Briscoe and remanded the case for further proceedings in light of the U.S. Supreme Court decision Melendez-Diaz v. Massachusetts. On January 11, 2010, Mr. King appeared as accompanying counsel before the U.S. Supreme Court where Professor Richard Friedman of the University of Michigan Law School, of whom Mr. King is a former student, argued on behalf of the petitioners.
